While I am busy tweeting on my iPhone, Facebook was busy developing some changes on their application on the world's best smartphone. I have to say, I am not a big fan of applications which do not look a lot like their website and FB is one of them. I wished they'd add more features and change the look because it's just boring. It takes more than one click (or touch) before you get to where you want to go.

Fortunately, they listened! Facebook version 2.5 for iPhone OS 3.0 is now available for download and I am hearing a lot of good things about it. Here's why:

Interface changed completely. You won't have to wait until the next page loads (if your connection is slow) because everything is on the main page.

The Status Updates page looks very much like the one on the website.

For iPhone 3GS users, you can also upload videos! (Unfortunately, I have the 2nd generation iPhone. No video capability).

Go to iTunes now and download the latest version!

Last Titanic survivor dies at 97

When the Titanic sank in 1912, it killed 1500 passengers when it hit an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean. Fortunately for Millvina Dean, she and her mother survived.

Reports say that she died recently at the age of 97.

Elizabeth Gladys Dean, known to her friends as Millvina, was the youngest passenger of the infamous luxury liner. She was only nine weeks old when she and her family boarded the Titanic in Southampton and headed for the US where her father was hoping to have a new life. When tragedy struck the ill-fated liner, she was bundled up in a sack and carried to safety. Her mother and brother made it but his father was one of those who died.

In 1997, she was invited to complete their journey to the US. She agreed to do so but refused an invitation to see the premiere of 'Titanic' because it would be too upsetting.

I think I was one of those folks who asked, Maggie Gyllenhaal's replacing Katie Holmes? It was plain curiosity. I thought Katie shouldn't have given up that role. Look at what's she's missing! I had no doubt that Maggie can be a perfect replacement. In fact, she made Rachel Dawes look like a totally different woman from the one in Batman Begins.

From TrendHunter Magazine: Maggie Gyllenhaal almost turned down this offer because of the paparazzi. Apparently, she just had a baby and the paps wanted to take a shot of her sweet angel. Since she didn't plan on pulling off a Brangelina, she stayed away from the shutterbugs. However, a crazy pap pushed her out of her bedroom by lying about a fire raging across the street.

“The paparazzi were just really awful to us. I mean, they called the fire department and told them there was a fire in our little, tiny building in the West Village (New York) so that we would have to come outside with a five-day-old baby,” Maggie said in an interview.

Maggie recalls seeing those photos of her breastfeeding splattered across page six. She was hurt and almost gave up her role for the latest Batman movie. Good thing she didn't because she would have missed being in the highest grossing movie of all time!

'The Dark Knight' Breaks Box-Office Records

The Dark Knight fever is still hot as ice. It continues to break box-office records! As of this writing, it set a one-day box-office record of $66.4 Million on its opening day, making other superhero movies look like poor straight-to-DVD losers. It also knocked out Star Wars: Episode III -- The Revenge of the Sith for gathering $18.5 million on midnight screenings. So many people want to see this film that they're even opening seats at 3AM in some cities. That's definitely hot!

I am eager to see how people would rate this movie. I've written about how I loved the depth of the story. Perez Hilton said he 'liked it but didn't love it'. He added that the movie was 'too dark' and not 'superheroey'.

CINEMALAYA 2008: My Fake American Accent

It's that time of the year -- Cinemalaya 2008 has started and there are more than 70 films (full length and short films ) included this year. Make sure you check the screenings so you can catch all the good ones. Last year, I was fortunate enough to watch good films such as Endo. This year, my eyes are on three films: My Fake American Accent, Baby Angelo, and 100. I just saw My Fake American Accent today and it was a good treat.

I was so excited to see this film. I have been in the BPO industry for more 5 years now and I wanted to find out if the director would be able to accurately depict the lives of call center employees -- not just the agents but the supervisors, managers and other departments.

The story of My Fake American Accent revolves on the operations side of the business, with one team of 4 agents, 1 Quality Specialist led by one supervisor who is working on a promotion. The movies touches on the sleepless mornings and nights, the frustrations, the fun times, sad times -- even the times when agents get mugged. The director has given us some of the types of call center employees - the bed hopper, the agent with an attitude problem, the irresponsible agent, the hardworking agent and the clueless agent. Each one has a story to tell.

I kind of laughed at the scene where this writer confessed that she suspended her life as a writer and worked as an agent because writing doesn't really pay for your bills. I remember when I was still an agent, I was also a student and at the same time a part-time correspondent for a major daily and a college magazine. There were times when I tried to make that the 'better' part of my life when in reality, it only constitutes less than half of it.

Whoever wrote the script for this should be given credit for writing the winning lines in the movie. However, I cannot say that this is a well polished film -- there was too much background noise that some of the funny lines were not very easy to understand. Some folks at the audience failed to hear them. As for the shots, it is quite inevitable for independent filmmakers not to use tripods to make the film look 'more indie'. Unfortunately for the viewer, the shots were too shaky.

This is a film that all call center employees should watch. Actually, EVERYONE should watch this. I noticed some people were laughing as if they were being shown something that occurred in a place strange to them. I have to say, a lot of people still think working in a call center is just about answering phones and perfecting your english. They don't realize that there's a lot of hardwork involved.

The Dark Knight: 10 stars, even more!

Okay, I have to say that I thought the producers of The Dark Knight were putting Heath Ledger's death from accidental drug overdose to generate buzz for the movie. For one, they were talking more about how good Heath's performance was and you almost do not hear anything about Christian Bale as Batman. The posters released earlier were also Joker's not the cape crusader.

And the verdict: I was wrong! They were completely accurate in describing this film as an epic. Heath Ledger's performance was beyond great and it gave us a whole new picture of the Joker we first knew some years ago, played by Jack Nicholson. I would say Nicholson's performance was a bit more theatrical than Ledger's.

What I love about this is the depth of the story. It wasn't just about a superhero trying to save the world. It tackles important issues in society and most importantly, terrorism. You could tell that the Joker was supposed to be back for another movie. I wonder if they would replace Ledger? Probably not in the next movie. It's time for a new villain.

Watch it BoobooStriders! It's worth every penny.

PS: Two Face's make-up was so realistic it's as if the cartoon version was brought to life.

Miss Venezuela is Miss Universe 2008 plus Miss USA Trips again!

The crown has been passed on from Japan to Venezuela. Dayana Mendoza, Miss Venezuela 2008 was crowned Miss Universe 2008 and received her crown from predecessor Riyo Mori of Japan.

According to AP:

Stewart, 26, is a motivational speaker and former track and filed star who is working on a book called "Waiting to Win." The Houston native plans to open a character-development school for young children and has worked with autism victims in the Texas schools.

Meanwhile, Miss USA caught the attention of the audience once again after falling during the evening gown competition for the 2nd consecutive year. You may recall last year's Miss USA Rachel Smith tripped right after coming out in her black gown. Like Smith, Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart of Texas stood up and pretended like nothing happened.

Dlisted does make a good point. This new release of Jennifer Hudson's upcoming debut album is indeed running towards becoming music's Photoshop awards. Mimi doesn't need it anymore as she's gone 'Touch My Body'. I'm excited as to how this one will play out. I personally think Jennifer Hudson is a great singer but I'm not sure if her Oscar-winning performance on Dreamgirls will translate to album sales and digital downloads that easily. But I am hoping it will. She's so talented.

Josh Hartnett in 'August'

This is a very interesting film. 'August' is a movie about a man who starts a dot com company on the eve of the September 11 attacks. It was the time when the internet and e-commerce was said to take over the next generation. Then, planes hit the two towers and everything fell apart. Websites crashed with them and people lost hope.

Not Tom though (played by Josh Hartnett). In this movie, he struggles to revive his company called Landshark, with the help of his brother. The movie got positive reviews when it was shown on Sundance Fim Festival. It will be coming out this month (hopefully it will be released in Asia too). This film is close to my heart. While I do not have a dot com company (maybe not yet), I am so much into making money through the internet. I hope they portray the e-commerce industry well in this film.

Jamie Lynn Spears' 'Perfect Pregnancy' plus Britney's new look

"I had the perfect pregnancy." This is what 17-year-old mom Jamie Lynn Spears told OK! magazine in their latest issue. The exclusive photos are splashed across the magazine's pages to the tune of a whopping $1 Million. Don't you just wish your baby's photo was worth that much?

She says: “They’d told me it would be an eight- to 12-hour labor, and I was ready to have the baby in three to four hours,” said Jamie. “I had a perfect pregnancy and a perfect delivery. I was very blessed.”

Why did they name the baby Maddie Briann? “Maddie is a name that Casey thought of, and I really liked it. Briann was because, a week and a half before she was born, one of Casey’s cousins, who he was really close with, passed. He was in a car accident. His name was Brian. She’s also named after my older brother, Bryan Spears. We just added another ‘N’ to it and made her Maddie Briann.”

Hancock and Will Smith's string of bad movies

What's with Will Smith? Why does he keep landing on movies which, despite making big bucks in the box-office, are panned by critics left and right? I personally didn't like 'I, Robot' but the effects were stunning. That's a consolation. Plus Shia Labeouf was in that movie. 'I am Legend' was 'I am Forgettable'. And now this:

John Hancock is not your typical superhero. He's an a**hole. He's not the type of person who will save people because he's passionate about it. He saves them because he's the only one of his kind. To clean up his image, he agreed to plead guilty to his crimes and serve his time in jail. Unfortunately, since crime rate is still up, the chief of police brings him back and this time, he becomes a better person, a better hero.

Okay the good part stops there. The actions scenes were awesome until they inserted the dramatic scenes with Charlize Theron. I love Charlize but it could have been better if she turned out to be the villain trying to kill Hancock. Don't get me wrong, I love the concept: a superhero who becomes mortal when paired with another hero. He learns the value of life and learns to love his mission in his life. However, like most of Will Smith's movies, this one's overrated.

You know those stories which say Nicole Kidman is gay, just like her ex-husband Tom Cruise? It is also said that she is infertile which is why they never had a biological child. Well, this spells out all rumors because she just popped! She and husband Keith Urban names their baby girl Sunday Rose.

From Associated Press:

The Oscar-winning actress and her country-star husband welcomed a baby girl on Monday, then named her after the day before.

"Earlier this morning Nic gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban," read the message posted on Urban's Web site. "We want to thank everybody that has kept us in their thoughts and prayers. We feel very blessed and grateful that we can share this joy with all of you today."

The first baby for Kidman and Urban, Sunday weighed 6 pounds, 7 1/2 ounces, according to Paul Freundlich, a publicist for the singer. There was no immediate explanation for the name, though one thing is certain: She'll never be upstaged by the likes of Suri, Apple, Moses, or Shiloh.

It's actually one of my favorite songs on her album. However, I don't get Mariah nowadays. I think she needs to cover up her body a bit. The Honey video way done in good taste. Looks like Miley Cyrus is determined to bounce back from the Vanity Fair controversy. I must admit, I like Miley Cyrus. I've seen a couple of Hannah Montana episodes with my sister. She also loves her. She can act and she didn't sell all those albums and tickets (for the 3D concert) without people seeing how talented she is. I really hope she won't be another Lindsay Lohan.

Disney is very good at creating superchildstars. However, once they grow up, they lose themselves in the crowded room of fame and glam. Yes, I am still talking about Lindsay, Britney Spears plus other former Disney stars. Speaking of La Lohan, reports are saying that her album is expected to bring in huge sales. People really want to see her new material.

Oh well, we just have to wait until that album is released. For now, here's Miley Cyrus with 7 Things from her new album.

Cinemalaya 2008

Thanks to Chuvaness for writing about this. It's the most exciting event in Philippine Cinema (IMHO). It's Cinemalaya once again. Last year, I wrote about the entries so many times. I haven't really gone through the list of films this years but here are two films that I will definitely be watching.

First is 100 which is sort of a local version of The Bucket List where a cancer-stricken woman lists the things she wants to do before she dies. Sounds familiar? We'll have to see if this one can offer something new.

The second movie is called My Fake American accent which tackles the life of call center employees. I'd love to see how they've portrayed us on this one. There are a lot of misconceptions about call center folks and I want to find out if this movie can help some ignorant (more like stupid) folks understand our lifestyle.

I was once hooked to A LOT of computer games. I remember getting addicted to a game where there were a lot of monsters and scary creatures and you have to kill them - brutally - and though it might sound a bit crazy, I really kinda liked it. Too bad the game became obsolete. The CD won't even run on my old Windows XP computer.

I haven't really caught up with a lot of internet gaming fanatics. I know there are a handful of great games, one of which is Dungeon Runners. I joined SocialSpark last month and I am happy with their website. I met a few other bloggers from different parts of the world. I also found some interesting blogs which are now part of my favorite sites list. I've bookmarked about 20 blogs as I wrote this. I know I will find more after adding more members to my friends' list.

I was surprised at the amount of mommy bloggers online. A few years ago, blogs are known to be used only by people with techie people are very knowledgeable about the internet. Now, more mothers are recognizing the power of the internet and most of them are doing it while earning through their blogs.

I've been in touch with some of the mommy bloggers and I enjoy reading their blogs, especially the Filipino mothers who are living in other parts of the world. Most of them talk about paying bills, picking up the dry cleaning, dealing with their kids and working to pay for tuition. I can somehow relate, since I will be paying for my little sister's tuition soon. And so we are all looking for other means to pay for bills and some other stuff we need in our lives.

For the mommy bloggers out there, I highly recommend that you sign up for SocialSpark. Blogging is something you can do together with raising your kids and working from home. Honda FCX Clarity: Hydrogen-powered car

In the midst of a worsening oil crisis, here's some good news. Honda has finally released the Honda FCX Clarity sedan in the market. The car is a zero-emission, Hydrogen and electric-powered car which is said to be the first step to a world of no petroleum/no pollution.

From Associated Press: "The FCX Clarity, which runs on hydrogen and electricity, emits only water and none of the noxious fumes believed to induce global warming. It is also two times more energy efficient than a gas-electric hybrid and three times that of a standard gasoline-powered car, the company says."

Honda expects to lease only "a few dozen" models this year, "and about 200 units within three years. In California, a three-year lease will run $600 a month, which includes maintenance and collision coverage." The first cars will be delivered to customers who applied for leases on Honda's website over the last year. Though Honda won't explain how it chose its first few dozen customers from over 50,000 applications, it's worth noting that the chosen few include "actress Jamie Lee Curtis and filmmaker husband Christopher Guest, actress Laura Harris, and film producer Ron Yerxa."

The Incredible Hulk report

I watched The Incredible Hulk yesterday. I've seen the first film where they had a different set of actors. I was very impressed with the first movie's special effects so I figured they would have a lot of improvements for this sequel. I was right. The Hulk definitely looks better, unlike the one on the first movie which doesn't adapt with natural light (and makes him obviously CGI).

The story starts with his self-exile in Brazil like what was shown on the first movie. He was being hunted by the US government in order to fully understand his capabilities as the Hulk and make it as a military weapon - a super soldier.

Earlier last week, there were reports that Edward Norton was not doing his part in promoting his film. According to SuperHeroHype.com this was largely because of the fact that he wasn't given proper writing credits for the film. It is said that Norton wrote the part where he finds the serum in the Amazon, exchanging emails with Tim Blake Nelson and a few other parts.

When it came to the final edit, some good 20 minutes of what Norton has written ended up in the cutting room while 50 minutes will be featured on its soon-to-be-released DVD. When presented to the Writers' Guild, full credits were given to Zak Penn, who argued that his original screenplay wasn't fully modified by Norton.

MY TAKE ON THE FILM: I do remember being entertained by the first Hulk movie. There were a few hits and misses on this one. The first few scenes were very dragging. I remember looking at the time as much as Bruce Banner checks his heart rate through his watch. It only started to be interesting when the original Hulk did a cameo as the security guard and when Stan Lee did his usual cameo. This was probably his longest one to date.

I thought the end part was done in a jiffy. First, the transformation of the Abomination looked a bit forced. It needed more character development which was not seen in this movie. The best parts are when Norton fell out of the helocopter, not knowing if he's morph into the Hulk or not; and the scene at the motel where he and Betty Ross were about to have sex but his heart rate changed so they stopped.

And oh, I got very excited when the Hulk did his signature move: the Thunder clap which I always use when playing Marvel Vs. Capcom.

I didn't quite like the ending. He didn't really kill the Abomination. So what happens to the monster? It just grew weak because of their fight. It didn't even morph back to Blonsky.

Which Sex and the City character are you?

I'm always curious when magazines do this. Do they disclose the number of magazines sold per star? I want to know if Carrie is still selling nowadays. As I've said earlier, I wasn't 'carried away' by the movie. I haven't seen it again so I have yet to decide whether my first blog entry is indeed valid or not. The movie was not as funny and witty as I hoped it would be, though it remained faithful to the series' theme and fashion sense.

I guess that was the problem. As Jessica Zafra wrote on her blog, the producers were so busy with the fashion displayed on the movie that they forgot to check the script. Anyway, I heard they're doing another movie. I also know that Kim Catrall will be doing another series with HBO, which was part of the deal when she accepted SATC The Movie.

For those in the Philippines, I know you're very disappointed with how some of Samantha's scenes ended up in the cutting room. The censors' board was busy with this film that Samantha's jokes became riddles. Can't blame them though. They're just doing their jobs. We should just probably wait for the DVD to be released.

Shia La-who? Just call him Shia. Don't mind his last name which is yet to be spelled correctly in magazine. This guy's got talent! He can act -be it a serious or funny role - he does deliver. I've been a fan of this kid since he starred on Constantine. He's been on Indiana Jones and soon on Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.

While he's still working on the huge projects, take a look at his latest movie Eagle Eye. The trailer doesn't show much but it looks pretty good.
